The last few mediaeval books I read were all whodunits; I need something different to read bust set in the same period. Any suggestions? I've got a birthday coming up next week and might get a token or two if I am lucky and don't get too many sets of plastic beads (what I have been given to date, go figure) so fill my wishlist...
Oh what a choice! On the spur of the moment, I'd pick The Queen's Fool by Philippa Gregory. Great fun to read. Or Sarah Dunant's In the Company of the Courtesan. Very intriguing...
I just got through reading a good medieval "whodunit". But if you really want to read something medieval that is not a "whudunit", then you might want to try The House of Lanyon by Valerie Anand. I just started it, and so far, it's very good.

Hmmmm. . . . You don't want a whodunit(yeah, yeah, I know it's long past your b-day), but you could do worse than The House of Lanyon by Valerie Anand. And some medieval "whodunits" are awfully good. The two Ariana Franklin ones, Mistress of the Art of Death, and her latest, the title of which slips my mind at the moment, are well worth reading. Again, if you don't want "whodunits", how about Bernard Cornwell's Uhtred series?

Currently reading Penman's PRINCE OF DARKNESS. Title character is John of England, a lowlife if ever there was one, but the main character is Justin who serves Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine. Well written, plenty of medieval flavor. I recommend it.
I see this is an old discussion, but when asked this question I always offer my penultimate choice: Edith Pargeter's Heaventree trilogy. They are: They Heaventree, The Green Branch, The Scarlet Seed. You can find them all as one book in a Doubleday Book Club Edition if you're lucky.
